Talvivaara Mine

A total of 11 undercarriages (ordered by Paakkola Conveyors Oy) will be delivered to the Talvivaara Mine. The biggest units weigh 80 tonnes and are 9 metres wide and over 10 metres long. Because of the massive size of the undercarriage, the final assembly will be carried out on site.

When fully assembled, the undercarriage pictured here without track chains and track shoes weighs 66 tonnes and is close to 8 metres wide.

Ab A. Häggblom Oy is involved in designing and manufacturing the second conveyor and stockpiling system for the Talvivaara Mine that will greatly increase its ore handling capacity.

Overall responsibility for the project rests with the general contractor Paakkola Conveyors. A key component in the system is a conveyor with a length of 400 metres that stockpiles the iron ore. Ab A. Häggblom Oy manufactures 11 undercarriages for the conveyor, each with a load-bearing capacity of hundreds of tonnes. Because of the large size and great weight of the workpieces, the job is extremely challenging. The undercarriages and tracks are designed and manufactured at the company’s Kokkola workshops while installations will be carried out in Talvivaara.

From the production point of view, it is extremely important that the transportation system is completed on time. Therefore the contract for the design and implementation of the transport system’s undercarriage and track system was awarded to Ab A. Häggblom Oy, a true expert in complex special projects.
